Magic Volcano Town

Magic Volcano Town

The Mt St Helens eruption on May 18, 1980, unleashed a massive landslide that collapsed the volcano's northern side and levelled huge areas of forest.  The mountain is called Loowit by Indigenous peoples, which means "smoking mountain."

Massive trees were flattened like dominoes. The sky turned black and ash rained down.

For a little girl, it was just a Magic Volcano Town.

Magic Volcano Town

  Verse 1

Woke up to the sky all gray, I know the mountain blew today.

  Chorus

We painted clouds on old milk jugs, scooped ash into paper cups,

Mama laughed when I made a crown, it was Magic . . . Volcano Town.

  Verse 2

Making snow angels in the dusty street, wrote hello in ash on my best friend Pete.

  Chorus

We painted clouds on old milk jugs, scooped ash into paper cups,

Mama laughed when I made a crown, it was Magic . . . Volcano Town.

  Verse 3

I was ten when the mountain blew, for me the ash was so cool and new.

  Chorus

We painted clouds on old milk jugs, scooped ash into paper cups,

Mama laughed when I made a crown, it was Magic . . . Volcano Town.

  Verse 3

First Street smelled of smoke and rain, I only remember the games we played.

  Chorus

We painted clouds on old milk jugs, scooped ash into paper cups,

Mama laughed when I made a crown, it was Magic . . . Volcano Town.
